Viva la Verve February Week 1

I absolutely love participating in the Viva la Verve challenges. Each week, we are given a sketch and we are to create a card with it. I don’t own many Verve stamps (yet), but I love the ones I have and I use them over and over again. Here is the sketch we were given for this week:

I wanted to use something I’ve had for quite a long time but hadn’t used before – the square ProvoCraft die. I wasn’t sure how this would look, but thought I’d give it a shot. Here is what I came up with:

Here is what I used to put my card together:

Card Stock – 110 lb. white Strathmore, Regal Rose (SU), pale pink (from my scrap stash)
Patterned Paper – Gossamer
Stamp – Beautiful You (Verve)
Ink – Versafine Black Onyx
Accessories – ProvoCraft square die, round nestabilities, pink organza ribbon, hat pin, pearls and beads, dimensionals

Thanks for having a look today – I hope you like it!

Verve Week 3 Sketch

Well, I made this card the other day, but my two sons were monopolizing the computer, even though we have two “home computers”. They always want the newer one that we bought not that long ago. I want to keep up with this month’s challenge – I love the new Verve stamps. Here is the sketch we got to work with this week:

I had just received a new embossing/die plate that I had ordered but was back-ordered (Carly from CB). I new I wanted to use it and managed to incorporate it in this card:

Here is what I used to put this card together:

Card Stock – 110 lb. cream , Basic Black
Patterned Papter- Webster’s
Stamps – Verve – “Beautiful You”
Ink – Momento Tuxedo Black, Ranger Antique Linen
Accessories – Carly Cuttlebug EF, Nesties Oval die and Deckled Rectangle, SU Kraft Taffeta Ribbon, Pearl Ribbon, pearl self-adhesive ribbons

I think that’s it for now – Thanks for having a look!

Viva la Verve – January (Week 1)

I hadn’t participated in a Viva la Verve challenge for some time. Since it is a new year, I wanted to start playing again. Here is the sketch we had to work with for Week 1:

I’ve been really inspired by all of the cards in the gallery that are predominantly white and that use various Spellbinders or other dies. I thought I’d give this style a go as well. I knew I wanted to use some Cuttlebug EF’s as well and since there were four panels in the sketch, I used four different folders. Here is my card:

Here is how the card came together:
Card Stock – 110 lb. White (Strathmore), Basic Black
Ink – Momento Tuxedo Black
Stamp – Beautiful You (Verve)
Accessories – CB EF’s (Swiss Dots, Fleurs de Lis, D’Vine Swirl, Vintage Wallpaer [SU]), Spellbinders Nestie’s and Fancy Tags, MS pine punch, SU Birds & Blooms and Little Leaves Sizzlits Dies, black self-adhesive rhinestones, dimensionals

I hope you like it! Thanks for taking a look.

Mojo Monday #171

I haven’t posted in ages! Since I have the day off, I figured I’d try to get a card made and I liked the Mojo Monday challenge sketch #171.

I’ll go with a square card every time! I wanted to keep my card fairly clean, so decided to use a sentiment on the front panel instead of an image. I also didn’t feel like coloring anything this morning! Here is what I managed to put together:

Here is the recipe:

Card Stock – 110 lb. White (Strathmore), Basic Black, So Saffron (SU)
Stamp Set – Beautiful You (Verve)
Ink – Black Onyx (Versafine)
Accessories – Fleur De Lis Shapeabilities Pendant (Spellbinders), Fleur De Lis Impressabilities (Spellbinders), Yellow Rose (Prima Flowers), Dimensionals

Thanks for having a look!

A Verve Two’fer

Gee whiz, I haven’t posted in ages! I have been stamping. In fact, on Sunday, I made 20 Christmas cards for my best friend. I even decorated a box and embossed the envelope flaps to go along with them. I hope she likes them!

Anyway, I was a little behind on September’s Viva la Verve challenge so I decided to make two cards last night to bring me up-to-date. The Week 3 challenge was a little bit tricky for me and took me a LOT longer to finish than I expected. I decided to use a bedroom photo for my inspiration and picked up on the scroll over the bed as well as the color and pattern as much as I could. Here is the photo:
and here is the sketch we had to work with:

I always go to my patterned paper to see what I have that might be the closest match to the inspiration piece. Turns out, I had something along the same lines as the duvet cover. I loved the softness of this room. I also had to think about what Verve stamps I was going to use. I was able to incorporate the swirl above the bed. I wanted to add a little more detail to the card, so pulled out some new Spellbinders Shapeabilities I bought and added them.

Here is what I came up with:

Card Recipe:

Card Stock: 110 lb. White, Brown (Bazzill Basics), old olive (SU)
Patterned Paper: 365 Degrees (Pink Paislee), My Mind’s Eye
Stamp Sets: Beautiful You (sentiment), Thankful Accents (flourish) – both from Verve
Ink: Early Espresso (SU)
Accessories: Circle, Labels Nine, Doodle Parts (all Spellbinders), heart charm, brown satin 5/8″ ribbon, self-adhesive half pearls, dimensionals

For the Week Four challenge, we picked a living room from House to Home and this is the room I chose for my inspiration, which was one of Amber’s selections:

and here is this week’s sketch:

So for this card, I rummaged through my patterned paper again as well as some of my embossing folders. I knew I wanted to keep this one fairly simple and just pick up as much of the color as possible without going overboard.

Here is the card:

Card Recipe:

Card Stock: 110 lb. Cream, Brown (Bazzill Basics), Rich Razzleberry (SU)
Patterned Paper: Eastern Blooms (Dovecraft)
Stamp: Beautiful You (Verve)
Ink: Early Espresso (SU)
Accessories: Embossing Folder (Sizzix), Labels Fifteen (Spellbinders), Kraft taffeta ribbon (SU), Brown self-adhesive half pearls (Dollar Store)

Thanks for bearing with me through this long post. Enjoy your day and thanks so much for having a look!

Viva la Verve Week 4

This is the final weekly challenge for the month – VLVJuly2010 – I’m glad I could get all four challenges done. I’m heading to the east coast on Tuesday for three weeks, so I’m not going to get a chance to upload many more cards before I go. My relatives and I decided (last year) to put together a reunion for as many of our family members as possible. My mom was from Newfoundland, and most of her relatives are still there. It is a beautiful, rural area of the province, and I can’t wait to take my husband and two teenaged boys. I think they will have a bit of a culture shock, but I hope the R & R does us all a little good.

Anyway, this week Amber gave us a great sketch to work with:

We got to choose our own inspiration photo from the “Bath” section of Bed Bath & Beyond. Here is the shower curtain I chose for my inspiration:

I rifled through a bunch of my patterened paper and came up with something that I think worked pretty well with the shower pattern. So, here are the details of my card:

Card Stock – 110 lb. white, Sahara Sand, Early Espresso
Patterned Paper – Kate Knight for Dovecraft “A Hint of Pink”
Stamp – Verve “Forever in Our Hearts”
Ink – Momento Rich Cocoa, Sahara Sand, Basic Gray
Accessories – Cuttlebug EF “Birds & Swirls”, Oval Nestabilities, grey satin ribbon, Bow Easy, silver charm, silver cord, dimensionals

Thanks for having a look!
