Corrosive Challenge #105 – Distress it!

Like last week, I decided to focus my colour palette on blue. I didn’t plan it that way, it just happened. This week’s Corrosive Challenge is to use distressing on our cards. This is a technique I rarely do, so it was great to step out of the box a little! I’m pretty pleased with the way my card turned out:

There is LOTS of distressing on this card, let me tell ‘ya! I purchased this collage stamp off of ebay a few weeks ago. Although I don’t know who the original manufacturer is, this is what the listing said: “The garden of to-morrow is the theme to this lovely stamp. It is my collage of some of the designs I love put together in one. This very pretty stamp measures 3.2×3.75″ WM Thanks Syl”. In any event, I really like this stamp and I’m glad I got to ink it up. I coloured it with my SU markers (Crumb Cake, Bashful Blue, Marina Mist, Pacific Point, So Saffron, Wild Wasabi, Early Espresso) onto white card stock, then added Ranger Distress Ink in Antique Linen and Walnut Stain around the edges and into the centre. I used my SU Distressing tool to rough up the edges, then peeled the layers of card stock apart and added a bit more distress ink. I layered the main image onto Early Espresso (SU) that I had misted with water and crumpled up, then flattened out with my hand. I used the Distressing tool again and adhered the panels. I tied some dyed seam binding around the main image, which hides the pretty saffron butterfly and one of the insects. I used my Bow Easy and made three loops on each side and adhered a blue button with some embroidery floss. The background patterned paper was also sponged (distressed) with Walnut Stain ink and was layered onto some Early Espresso, and both were adhered to the beige card base.

I can’t wait to see what you guys create! Thanks for stopping by!

Magical Creatures

Hi all! Another week has flown by and it’s time for another Corrosive Challenge. This week’s theme is “Magical Creatures”. I’ve got to tell you, this card took me ages to make! I was scouring through a bunch of sketches challenges and came across this one from Wild Orchid Challenges:

This card also qualifies for the challenge #105 at Flourishes to use three patterned papers. I’ve had this angel from Flourishes for a little bit but it hadn’t seen any ink yet. Since I consider angels to be magical, I think it fits the challenge criteria nicely, don’t you? At first I tried something different. I had embossed it in gold, but then I thought it would be too bright and wasn’t in the mood to colour it. I’m not sure why I chose to stamp it in blue, but it kept calling to me. I used a blender pen to pull some of the blue from the outline into the the image and added a wee bit of silver to fill in the ribbon. I also sponged around the edge of the image to soften it up. Here it is:

Here is the rest of how the card came together:

Card Stock – 110 lb. white Strathmore (card size is 5.25 x 5.25), Not Quite Navy and Marina Mist (SU)
Patterned Paper – My Mind’s Eye, SU and something else from my stash (!)
Ink – Marina Mist and Sahara Sand (SU), Encore Silver
Stamp – Flourishes
Accessories – White satin ribbon, Bow Easy, EK Success punch, Tattered Angels “Pearl” Glimmer Mist, dimensionals

Thanks for having a look today! I can’t wait to see what you create too!
