A Verve Two’fer

Gee whiz, I haven’t posted in ages! I have been stamping. In fact, on Sunday, I made 20 Christmas cards for my best friend. I even decorated a box and embossed the envelope flaps to go along with them. I hope she likes them!

Anyway, I was a little behind on September’s Viva la Verve challenge so I decided to make two cards last night to bring me up-to-date. The Week 3 challenge was a little bit tricky for me and took me a LOT longer to finish than I expected. I decided to use a bedroom photo for my inspiration and picked up on the scroll over the bed as well as the color and pattern as much as I could. Here is the photo:
and here is the sketch we had to work with:

I always go to my patterned paper to see what I have that might be the closest match to the inspiration piece. Turns out, I had something along the same lines as the duvet cover. I loved the softness of this room. I also had to think about what Verve stamps I was going to use. I was able to incorporate the swirl above the bed. I wanted to add a little more detail to the card, so pulled out some new Spellbinders Shapeabilities I bought and added them.

Here is what I came up with:

Card Recipe:

Card Stock: 110 lb. White, Brown (Bazzill Basics), old olive (SU)
Patterned Paper: 365 Degrees (Pink Paislee), My Mind’s Eye
Stamp Sets: Beautiful You (sentiment), Thankful Accents (flourish) – both from Verve
Ink: Early Espresso (SU)
Accessories: Circle, Labels Nine, Doodle Parts (all Spellbinders), heart charm, brown satin 5/8″ ribbon, self-adhesive half pearls, dimensionals

For the Week Four challenge, we picked a living room from House to Home and this is the room I chose for my inspiration, which was one of Amber’s selections:

and here is this week’s sketch:

So for this card, I rummaged through my patterned paper again as well as some of my embossing folders. I knew I wanted to keep this one fairly simple and just pick up as much of the color as possible without going overboard.

Here is the card:

Card Recipe:

Card Stock: 110 lb. Cream, Brown (Bazzill Basics), Rich Razzleberry (SU)
Patterned Paper: Eastern Blooms (Dovecraft)
Stamp: Beautiful You (Verve)
Ink: Early Espresso (SU)
Accessories: Embossing Folder (Sizzix), Labels Fifteen (Spellbinders), Kraft taffeta ribbon (SU), Brown self-adhesive half pearls (Dollar Store)

Thanks for bearing with me through this long post. Enjoy your day and thanks so much for having a look!
